Connecting a shower - how do I get joints watertight?

I have a shower to install. The shower controls connect via offset threaded bits (not sure what to call them) which I believe are designed so that the position of the shower controls can be adjusted to be perfectly level. I have used elbow joints on the water pipes. These have the right size thread, but I don't see how they can be watertight unless the offset threaded bits are done up tight - in which case there isn't any adjustment. Should I be using a washer, or is there some other magical way of doing it?

OK, I'm convinced. The absolute last thing I want is a leak afterwards. On reflection, I think the first ones above will work. Just wish I'd asked these questions before I fitted the elbows...

Locktite 55 cord may need to have a couple of goes to get the amount right but should sort it. Fernox LSX is good too just leave it for an hour or so to set up a bit if the joint is a little loose.

You can do it with ptfe but again several goes required to get it right, in the good old days hemp and boss white worked a treat.

The good thing about the bar fixing kit is that apart from the elbow fitting in the wall (which can be soldered) there is nothing to leak behind.

The olive and nut are placed on the outside of the fitting and is accessible in the future.

It comes with both 1/2" & 3/4" connections
