Hello to all.
Just surfed net and found a post by 'foxhole' in carpentry forum.
He posted a pic of his tiled kitchen worktops, which look superb.
Wife wants the red, sparkly, gloss, laminate worktops, which I've read are prone to all kinds of scratching/staining etc problems.
'Foxhole' used floor tiles.
I've found a supplier for 600x600 red, sparkly floor tiles, made of quartz/resin, which seem the DB's.
Trouble is, from what I've read they're a nightmare to cut.
Have to be done with diamond blades and water.
Looked on various hire sites, but can't find a hand-held saw with water - American sites are full of 'em!
I'd need to cut into the middle of the tile for the sink, so my electric tile-cutter, with the water trough, would be difficult to use with such large tiles.
So, have I had a flash of genius here with the following or not -
Will my Bosch multi-tool, with diamond blade, and a steady flow of water to the tile, do the job?
I'm reckoning the action of the blade is not liable to throw water all over the motor. I'll fit some kind of water guard if it does.
Failing that, anyone got a better idea?
Other than paying professionals to tile for me, or getting a company to water cut them.
This is a DIY forum after all.
Thanks.
Regards,
John.

before you get to worrying about cutting them, order a sample and check out the durability. A lot of the quartz resin stuff is quite prone to scratching too

Already ordered.
Just opened a laminate sample that's arrived. Scratched it with a screw.
It scratched!
Who'd have thought it.
Waiting for 2 quartz samples.
I found various products for keeping the shine and offering protection.
My problem is getting the wife to be a LOT more careful with how she drags and bangs things on the tops, whatever the material.

In response to my own question -
Rang Bosch yesterday.
After taking advice, bloke said yes, their diamond multi-tool blades will cut quartz.
Bit more digging, and found a firm called ATS diamond tools.
Rang them and got a very helpful bloke.
They do a 115mm angle grinder blade - Porcelain & Quartz Thin Turbo Flange Blade'.
£15 with delivery and just arrived.
Cuts wet or dry.
Says obviously it lasts longer wet, but for the amount I need to cut it'll be fine dry.
So, happy days!
Other than the wife's now 'not sure...' if she wants tiled worktops.
Women eh?
