Hi all.

We would like to replace our front door nightlatch. We wanted something that is anti drill/bingo and with the possibility to lock the inside release handle at night because we have windows in the door.

We have found the ERA secure night latch http://www.screwfix.com/p/era-bs-night-latch-satin-nickel-60mm/48212 which ticks all the boxes. Only issue is that we are also installing an electronic release system. The lock comes with an auto deadlock feature which we are told won't work with an electronic strike release since the strike releases don't usually open wife enough to allow the deadlocked tongue out. One locksmith suggested removing the deadlocking nib.

My question is is there any lock that has all the security features minus the deadlock or better is there any strike release that opens wide enough to allow the deadlocked tongue to pass through.

We are aware that we will lose the BS status if using with an electronic release.

Thanks for that. Shame they are so expensive. Any suggestion on a way around this? Should I saw of the deadlock stib?

Have you ever come across :'Videx, 17N, 12VAC - Rim Latch with Deadlock Aperture' The description seems to match but there are no images or info online. A sales rep at Videx pointed me to this but he wasnt sure what it was.

It is around £50.

The problem you have is the 20mm throw on the BS 2007 night latch.
You could fit a night latch that meets the older standards. That would only have a 16mm latch throw and would fit in to the majority of the available electric releases. A lot more affordable for you.
Have a look at the Yale no1 auto deadlocking night latch or the Era 193 double locking night latch.

SO even if I were to disable the deadlock function this would still not work with most electric releases?

Are the Yale 1 and ERA 193 anti bump?

No the cylinders on both of those are not anti bump.
You could mix and match: externally fit a rim cylinder of your choice but this would mean a different key for outside and a second (the original) key to lock the internal handle.
Most electric releases are for a 14 or 16mm throw latch bolt. Thus the 20mm throw on the Era BS does not fit all the way in as it is intended to and by not fully throwing all the way it leaves it open to manipulation.

Many thanks for the info.

In your opinion what is more important bump proof or the issue of the latch not recessing completely due to 20mm throw?

And just to make sure I havent misunderstood, if I remove the deadlock stib on the ERA 1930 it would work properly with the average strike but I would be risking maniplation due to it not recessing completely into the strike?

A quality six pin cylinder lock (you get what you pay for) is not easily defeated.
A night latch with out dead locking is very vulnerable.
Have you considered adding in a BS 6321 mortise dead lock ?

Sorry cant see it mentioned in any of sites selling them, is the ERA 193 a 6 cylinder?

Any suggestions for the mortice?

Also hopefully if a potential intruder sees the the ERA 1930 rim cylinder they will assume it deadlocked...

For a mortice lock best bet the Union (used to be Chubb) 3G114E.
