Two different loft rooms....

First house (big old Victorian semi), first post, etc...

We have two separate decent-sized loft rooms, I'm looking for the best solution in terms of plastering / boarding for both.

Room 1:
Sagging ceiling (lath and plaster by the looks of it) over joists with a very small apex. Poorly insulated (if at all) in the joists. Walls are covered in thick painted vinyl wallpaper, most likely holding the plaster on. Radiator.

I know the ceiling is going to have to come down, and it will be a good opportunity to insulate. I'd like to block up two plastic wall vents. I don't want to start taking the wallpaper and plaster off, but I don't think there's much choice.


Room 2:
Bare brick walls, no ceiling. Thick Celotex insulation boards between some of the joists. No radiator.


Been reading around on this a bit. Does this sound like a good idea or overkill?

1. Take everything back to brick where not already.
2. Parge coat of hardwall plaster.
3. 50mm weather-treated batons screwed to the wall.
4. Celotex type insulation boards between the batons.
5. Standard boards
6. Skim coat (board finish)

Suggestions, tips, recommendations, words of caution and wisdom please?

I'd scrap the hardwall plan, waste of time and money IMO. Batten with 2x1 roofing batten and board with insulated plasterboards, less thermal bridges compared to insulating between and seeing as your only adding minimalninaulation, you want it to count. As for the ceiling part it's hard to say what's best as ventilation of rafters etc is very important. Pics would help.
