Hi. My local Church has a 3600 litre baptising pool that needs filling once every six weeks or so. Stored water is out due the volume required and physical space for plant available. Also we are starting to delve into the depths of Legionella.
So.... Without using the five letter 'C' word what do you think? Big multipoint water heater? I probably need something like 35 to 40 litres a minute!!!
Ideas anyone?

I've seen a portable immersion heater for this, big element with a cage round it, stand it in the pool for a few hours before use.

My Dad's church used to use one. They put it in the day before a service! Don't think they were that bothered as it was only used about 6 times a year.

Ach get them all to turn Church of Scotland instead of these Happy Bappies, save a fortune & they'll be part of a proper religion then. When I was dunked it was just a few drops of water out the fond, in fact there was more water on the Minister than on my knapper, I pizzed all over him......... ;)
May your God go with you.

Big water heater has to be the way to go here, although it'll be expensive. Andrews (now owned by Baxi) do a good range of condensing ones that will deliver anything up to 385 litres / min. You'd probably be fine with the SUPAflo SF61, which will do up to 100 l/min and fill your pool in just over half an hour. The next question, of course, is...do you have the incoming flow rate to satisfy the heater?

Alternatively, rip out the baptism pool and fit a hot tub...

Hey, thanks for all the advice so far. And no, I'm not a Baptist. I'm part of an independent evangelical Church called 'Destiny'. I appreciate the humour though. I'll suggest a hot tub and see how long is is before I'm thrown out, lol.

I was thinking about an Andrews heater. I'll have to look up their web site and see what will suit. I've not actually seen the incoming mains pipe yet. It's probably 1/2" lead running at 1 bar!
Thanks again folks,
Bitzer.

I think you are approaching it from the wrong direction.

You should consider it as a swimming pool to be heated.

That can use a standard domestic boiler say 24 or 28 kW and a heat exchanger! A fairly simple larger plate one can e used with a poolside circulating pump.

The problem with your idea is that filling with hot water means that most of the heat will be taken out warming the sides etc and once cooled you cannot reheat it. Furthermore you need to pay for the water every time you fill it.

There's got to be 35 quids worth of water there let alone heating it. How much do you charge for a baptism?

I must admit that it did occur to me that Jesus wouldn't have been baptised in nice pre-heated water, I'd have thought an ice bath would be more cleansing for the soul!
