Hi Friends,

I have conventional Ideal E-type boiler and there is a the feed tank in the loft. My emergency home cover provider has written to me that full system cleanse needs to be carried out.

Can anyone advise me how much does it cost ? The property has 7 radiators Where can I find reliable service provider.

I will really appreciate your help.

Regards,
Vik

Why have they written telling you this?

Price depends heavily on where you are aswell.

Will be half a day to a days work depending on the state of the system I would guess. Hate powerflushing personally.

If you are fond of simple DIY plumbing, you could give it a chemical clean at low cost, which will do some good. We don't know how bad yours is. Have you had a blockage?

There is no substitute for a Powerflush, one with a Magnacleanse is even better. Putting a few chemicals in won't achieve anything significant, particularly if the sludge has got to the stage when it is having an impact on the running of the boiler.

Chemical flushes make the customer feel better because of the dirty water drained out at the end. The reality is, the water would be almost as dirty without the chemical.

That being said, lavishing the expense of a Powerflush/Magnacleanse on an E Type, which must be at least 30 years old, is like respraying a very old car. You would have to have some kind of emotional attachment to the thing, or have an expectation of it being a future classic to make it worthwhile.

And neither could be said about an Ideal E Type. Jaguar E Type, maybe.

As it happens, I did a PF on an ancient E Type a couple of years ago. It was a badly performing microbore system, and he wanted a new boiler, but the upheaval was to much for his (now decease) frail wife.
I went back a few months ago to service his fire, an he could not believe how well the system was working, but he still wants a new boiler. Soon...........

Hi Guys,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I live in Harrow.

Simon - Thanks for your comprehensive answer. The only reason I am attached with the boiler as I have just bought the house 4 to 5 months ago. It will be very expensive if I will replace the boiler than reviving it for the couple of years. I know its not worthwhile to paint a old car but let it run until it gets completely packed up.

On separate note some body has quoted me £300+VAT for Power Flush of 7 boilers. Is it reasonable ? Please advise guys.

Once again thank you for your valuable comments.

Regards,
Vik

As Dan has already asked: why are the emergency cover company saying this?

Did you call them out recently for a problem and they say the problem was due to a blockage?

Are you trying to get cover and they say you must have a powerflush before they will give you cover?

Your boiler is old and pretty inefficient but they are very reliable so likely to carry on working for several years. But at the expense of the extra gas cost because its not efficient like a modern condensing boiler.

Your power flush works out £10 more expensive than my usual price.

However, I cannot see how you imagine your insurance cover is going to be of any value to you with such an old but reliable boiler.

But you have not told us why they are asking for a power flush anyway.

That is very cheap for power flushing seven boilers.

Its only £10 more than I charge for power flushing just one boiler system.

Tibbot - I am asking to make sure that he is not charging excessive as I haven't have any experience.7

Agile - Thanks for your respond. Really appreciate!!!

Dan - Recently I had a problem with hot water and I had to call home emergency. Their engineer had taken the water sample with him. I have received their letter informing that the system has high level of sludge and debris and before they reinstate the boiler on policy they want to see the evidence of system cleanse.

Thanks you!!!!

I wish I could use that business model.

Next problem will be "obsolete parts not available". But not until they have bent you over for a load more monthly payments.

Will you get a refund?

HahahahahahhHHahahahahahahahahah
