Can't remove tap jumper!

Hi,

I have an old bath mixer tap which has a deep channel in the cold tap seat.

Since I can't get the bath out (a long story) to change the taps, I've put a plastic/silicone seat cover in and am trying to install the new tap washer/seat into the tap.

However, whatever I do I can't get the jumper out of the tap. It rotates but just won't pull out. Am I missing something? Could it be corrosion? Do I need to take apart the top section of the tap? Do I just need a bigger hammer?

Any ideas?

You've managed to remove the headgear assembly from the tap body but you can dis-assemble it - correct?

Yep! That's correct. I thought the jumper and washer were supposed to just pull out.

You've found a tap with a fixed jumper - you're better off re seating the cut out of the seat after digging out that placcy thing, they aren't much good anyway

I've tried! I got a seat cutter from Wickes which shaved a little off, but the groove was still pretty deep (1-2mm). Then I cut the end of the cutter and attached it to my drill and it still doesn't make much difference to the tap seat. I get shiny copper but it looks like it'd take years to cut through it all

years ago, the hot tap had a fixed jumper and the cold was loose (for obvious reasons),

if you have old British Made taps that have been stamped by the water board you may find that your hot tap wrongly is the one with the loose jumper, worth a punt to find out and swap them over.
