Hi,

I'm new here and joined hoping someone could solve my problem.

We've just moved house and have inherited an Accenta G4 alarm system. I want to move the internal siren (sounder) to the other side of the plasterboard wall (from the hallway into the utility room). It's a simple job except that I don't know if I'll set off World War III with the anti-tamper system. I don't know anything about alarm systems and I'm itching to just unscrew the two internal leads with fingers crossed.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Leigh.

Can't you totally disable the system [switch off mains supply AND disconnect back-up battery(ies)] whilst you do the work?

Kind Regards, John

I would try the 'engineer mode' first - the person who fitted the alarm should have left the G4 manual and 'hopefully' they haven't changed the engineer mode code or at least they have marked the new code on the manual.
The problem with switching off the whole system is that unless you can also access the outside 'audible' bell box battery as well, as JohnW2 implies, whatever you do will cause it to activate for at least 15 minutes.
Make sure you identify which wire goes where and if possible focus on the (ext) internal sounder wire end rather than the main box end.
The G4 main box does come with an internal sounder anyway so another option is to remove it altogether.

.

in that situation I just disconnect the bell box at the panel, pull the cable out of the panel and connect its +ve, -ve and holdoff to a separate battery. The alarm will sound whilst you do it, but it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds if you have everything ready.

Can't disagree with your approach davelx ..... but I considered the comments the OP made earlier....
I don't know anything about alarm systems
You know how 'neat' and 'tidy' the wiring inside of some alarm main boxes are..

It's just an ugly square box connected by just two leads. Would put up an internal image but I've got to go to work in the next 10 minutes. The other half dozen leads from the alarm wire are not connected to anything. Would be great if there was no anti-tamper.

Thanks everybody for all the replies - very much appreciated!

Will try to deal with it tomorrow and post an internal image - and see if it sets everything off.
