Hi, I'm working on the design of my single storey rear extension in a mid terrace house.

A question that I guess I know the answer but don't want to believe this is the only option I have is regarding the soil stack pipe that runs at the back of the house.

The extension is going to be full width and therefore if nothing is changed the soil stack will have to be boxed in (this is what I think is my only option).

The issue is that if boxed in the pipe it would be in the middle of the new planned kitchen which is a no no for me.

I have checked the regulations part H to see if it would be ok to run the new pipework for the upstairs bathroom over the roof of the extension and then down to the ground and can't seem to find anything against it, however I have seen in another forum the exact same design done by someone which was then refused by building control.

Have you guys got any ideas on how to overcome this issue? Last thing I want to do is to have this pipe boxed in...

Thanks!

any pictures of drawings etc? It's kinda difficult to see what your working with. Ive seen the soil pipe over the roof on a few houses. I'll be honest apart from looking like a c••t, I don't see why it wouldn't pass.

I do have proper drawings but can't have access to them right now.. I've done some quick drawings of what I wanted to achieve. Left is current design, right is proposed with rear extension and loft conversion.

Yes, I have seen them over the roof and they don't look pretty.

Is it not feasible then to redirect the soil pipe to the side of the house? Obviously you would need to change the drainage as well but so long as there is enough 'fall' it should be possible. Either that or hire a group of pole dancers to do the cooking. ;)

it's a mid terrace house... so I guess if I was to do it I would need to build a stud wall to hide the stack... it's still better to loose 150mm+ of internal space than having the pipe right in the middle of the extension

though I like the idea of pole dancers :sneaky:

The problem with doing that is inspection hatches. Also a point to rod. Will the extension be full width.

It was supposed to be full width but because I will need to leave a small gap to have access to the side alleyway I guess that would be an option then... your question came in as a suggestion ;)
