Should we take more Syrian's?

The reason half of the world wants to come here is because of our imperialist history, many countries look up to us as the people who brought them 'civilisation'.
Nothing to do with the generous benefits system and free healthcare system, then?

Of course, those things go hand in hand with civilisation. I don't mind if some of my taxes pay towards clothing and feeding families who have escaped a hell on earth we helped fashion. Do you?
Yes.

Actually 20 to 30 years ago lot's of people could not afford mortgages, which is why we

Housing is so expensive because overall we have so much more wealth.

Anyway, you're talking about standard of living - which is often totally different to quality of life.

Housing is more expensive, because there's more demand loads of Eastern European coming here pushes up house prices, supply and demand.
People on minimum wage pay very little tax, making the country worse off, get out the e.u now, them Syrians will have e.u passports soon

How civilised are we now? Moaning about having to wait longer at the doctors, or sit in more traffic whilst humans are dying fleeing war zones we as a nation created.

As a former soldier, I don't recognise the the people I served abroad anymore, judging by the posts on this forum.

The things you mention are what makes us civilised, like the health service for instance. When you see some of these less civilised Countries it is obvious how unimportant life and compassion towards fellow man is. That is how this Country will be within a few years.

I don't think anyone on here would begrudge a few thousand desperate families living here (me included) but then where do they live, where do they work, who pays for it and for how long? Can we rely on the system to weedle out the ones who are not genuine, perhaps terrorists? Once they are here it is too late. Once the UK is full up from the result of this conflict and the next and the next, we will not be able to support ourselves let alone anyone else. Where does our charity end? I know where it should start.

I am sorry to say this because I always back our soldiers in whatever conflict they are thrown into; but if a soldier doesn't put the Country he serves first, then maybe he or she is in the wrong job.

At least your honest about your lack of compassion.

I am genuinely disturbed by the lack of humanity in the country, so please don't take my comments personally as I'm confident I am in the minority.

I can't understand how people can see dead children washing up on the beach and shrug, and discuss their lives in monetary terms.

I left because I didn't want to serve people with the opinions you have, so you are right. i joined to help people, and that service didn't stop and the white cliffs of Dover.

I'd put the dead kids dad in the nick for putting his son on a dodgy boat. From what I read he was already living in Turkey and perfectly safe. Fookin muppet doing that to your child. Then along come the do gooders. "Oh we must take millions of refugees cos some koont drowns his kid". Epic lets fill the country will worthless morons like that.

PS I note Syria was perfectly safe to return to for the burial!

Thanks for the compliment, although it was not intended to be so I think. Quite proud of being a do gooder.

Does that make you a do bad? If you have the opposite opinion to me?

Your posts is really heartless.

Seriously if he wasn't fleeing war or persecution what was he doing putting his son at risk like that? He had a job, a home and was safe. He killed his son. On that basis the press and public support changes, to allow these people into our country. The boy wasn't shot in the back running from isis on his way home from school. His son was safe. His father caused his death. Why is that being used as a basis to overload our country with myriads of people who are essentially useless to us?

"That boy may have just saved the war for us"

You can't just pick and choose your basic economic arguments like you picked and chose which parts of my post to quote.

Supply and demand drives up prices, but the money still needs to be available for those prices to be maintained. Houses are being sold at the high prices = ergo the money in the economy exists.

Overall more wealth exists, overall more people are wealthy, but this does not mean that everyone is a winner.

The lack of social housing means those losers now end up paying through the nose, or end up renting and bemoaning the cost of housing (rightly so).

10-20% of the population being stuffed is less than 1/4 but still millions upon millions of people that are up the housing creek without a mortgage.

We shouldn't be letting any immigrants in. Period. But we certainly shouldn't be letting in ones from a certain religion. The reasons they are in crisis is because of their own people and religion. We don't need their ideology in Europe, because bleeding hearts who see a dead kid and have a knee-jerk reaction thinking they can save the world only endanger their own people.

If you were any kind of soldier, you would have realised that dewy-eyed sentiment will get you killed.

It didn't though, did it? And don't judge what kind of soldier I was, you're not fit to judge me.

You certainly have a skewed view of what a soldier is, but the personal insults are a digression from the thrust of the topic.

Do you think the we as a country played no part in the displacement of people from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Sudan, it has all been caused by themselves?

Have a look into it, let me know what you find.

That maybe so, but with 20,000,000 people on the move, you let us know where they will all go.

How many new mosques will we need to build?
