Leaking Summer House Roof

I have a summer house. The ground plan is in the form of an 8ft square with a corner knocked off. The roof slopes uniformly back from the doors to the rear corner (I have previously taken action to correct ponding by providing additional struts, so the roof is planar).

The roof is composed of tongued and grooved softwood on a frame covered with roofing felt which is held in by very short clout nails.

Following leakage, I re-felted the roof in July 2014 and it was OK during the winter, but has now started to leak again. Rather than re-roofing yet again, I wondered if there was another way to deal with this. Is there some resin product that I could apply? Is there some other roofing material that I could apply which would last longer?

Nail size – Nails should be long enough to get a purchase in the timber but not break through inside. If in any doubt you should measure the thickness of the timber the nails go into.

I've never done one of these, but I've never understood why nails are used, when you could probably get a better 'stick' using a strong adhesive.

You have not said how the roof has failed. Properly applied roofing felt lasts at least 20 years. But like everything else you get what you pay more.

thanks guys. I used nails only because they were supplied with the original kit. The tongued and grooved timber roof is only about 12mm. Nailing is problematic because the very short nails sometimes hit the gap between boards and don't grip.

I think that the cause of the leaking is that the felt has lifted slightly at the joint and the wind is blowing water uphill and thence into the summer house.

I am thinking of using a sealing material called Acrypol. any advice on this?
