Ford Fiesta 1.4tdci 2007 low power

I think you need a specialist to look at that turbo......I've used a firm called Turbotechnics in the past.
Lack of power......smoke......they could all be connected.

All of the sudden it broke down today half way to work? And wouldn't start again. Had to have the RAC tow me home :(
This can't be related to the turbo can it?

Unlikely but on some vehicles air pressure sensors play hell with the engine management......for example, the Audi A3 - if a pipe drops off the intercooler, the car will hardly move. It would rev up in neutral but just wouldn't drive.
Maybe yours is similar, I don't know.
John :)

Managed to start it with a recharged battery, fires up but will only rev in neutral to about 1000rpm. Waiting on a turbo to come. Anything I can test until then? I guess compression test would be best.
White smoke also coming out of air intake when breaking to look at turbo.

Just explain the white smoke coming out of the air intake, will you......do you mean fumes coming into the air cleaner box when the engine is running?
Is the engine management light on now?
John :)

This is after the engine has stopped, eml is not on or any codes. Taking pipework off white fumes/smoke still exist.

Just to let anyone know using this for reference. The replacement turbo did the trick.
Thanks for the help burnerman. One final question, do you think it's essential I change the oil to check the sump for metal shavings from the old turbo? This was recommended to me but I have done this a week previous and don't want to spend the money if I don't need to.

I have to say I would recommend that, together with oil and filter changes of course!
I know that's not what you want to hear, but there are many horror stories around concerning small turbos and their destruction. An example is the Peugeot 1.6hdi - the PSA group will only fit new engines I believe if their turbo self destructs.....a bit over the top if you ask me, but it is necessary to clean the sump, oil pick up filter, and renew the oil feed pipe to the turbo at a minimum.
The trouble is of course, you could drop the sump and find everything spotless!
John :)

Isn't the 1.4 Ford basically the same lump as the 1.6 Peugeot lump John?

It may well be, under all the clutter.....I know the Peugeot lump appears in the Mini too.
If it is, it's a new turbo oil feed pipe with that horrible filter inside at least!
If it was mine it would be sump off - if there's no crossmember around it shouldn't be too difficult but I've yet to have the pleasure!
John :)

Yes, here it is.

I thought I'd read something when I was doing the "paranoia due diligence" thing. :) As you know I have the Peugeot 1.6 version.
I agree with John I'm afraid. The oil and filter are critical in these engines, as is the mileage between changes. I do half the recommended on mine at 7.5K instead of 15K.
Don't want to cause unnecessary work, but worth reading the second post down here
