nauseous

No I'm not talking about my gorgeous young looking wife.

What exactly can I expect a half decent GHE to do apart from ogle my wife and drink my tea and eat all the choc digestive biscuits?

It's a WB24i combi about 14 yrs old. Not been properly serviced for 4 yrs (I know, shame on me)

TIA.

You seem to have a very high opinion of your Wife which is commendable BUT a very low opinion of Gas Engineers, for that reason, I'm out!

I'd charge £65+vat for a basic service, but as yours hasn't been serviced for a while you could find that yours costs considerably more

Very rude and unfair comment I must say. You have clearly jumped to the wrong conclusion, I have the greatest of respect for boiler monkeys

I had a quick word with a local GE man. He said £54 but a neighbour of mine complained she felt a little ripped her off by him charging her £50
to supply and fit a new flexible hose connector to her new cooker. IDK if he did or not he may have been there an hour or more for all I know.
I will ask her next time.

Can I ask again. What exactly can I expect him to do?...I expect more than a quick brushing/hoovering out of the combustion chamber.

If it's 14 years old probably turn the gas off to it and label it unsafe!

Let's hope there's not a dick with a camera waiting to big himself up by catching the evil tradesman out then eh??

Especially if said dick wasn't even registered himself ;)

Gosh, poor Roger is just doing his job Razor, he's not into self promotion & is only doing it for the good of the trade!! Isn't he??!!..........:LOL:

I think that Servotech is probably gas reg now.

The OP seems to have a very low opinion of boiler engineers. I don't like to be called a monkey!

Nor do I supply a £12 cooker hose and come to the property and connect it for a further £40. Before and after fitting the hose we have to check for gas leaks at the property and that the meter is correctly fitted and bonded.

He seems to only think about the time spent inside the property. In most cases for small jobs, getting there, finding a parking space ( meter fee ? ) takes far longer than the actual job.

I wouldn't dream of personally calling you a 'monkey' sir. I respect your post on the whole (ones I've seen) and I for one appreciate your knowledge
and wisdom. Apologies for the misunderstanding. However 'steelmason' can go fook himself. He seems most arrogant and unhelpful and clearly has issues. More so than DR (jk)

I do appreciate one has to travel to said job etc etc but in the case I mentioned above my neighbour confirmed to me this morning he was in and out in 15 mins flat. Therefore charging her £40 for lets say for argument sake, 30 mins work inc traveling was/is a little excessive IMO as I'm sure you would hopefully agree?..

Why some on here feel so gifted and self important and consider themselves entitled to charge people exorbitant amounts of money is beyond me and I expect most other reasonable people too. Maybe that is why some people are reluctant to employ an GHE and feel pressured to carry out their own repairs because they simply haven't the money. Which I fully acknowledge is mostly illegal, can be dangerous and even have catastrophic consequences.

At the end of the day we're talking about a device that simply 'heats water'. It's not an aeroplane or a car train or bus that lifes depend on. It's not rocket science. I think we can blame boiler manufacturers for making products that are simply to complicated and poorly designed to maintain efficiently an industry that is simply out to exploit..

There are twice as many gas registered operatives as there were 12 years ago. Our industry is now arguably over subscribed with people looking for work to do.

If you can't find someone to service your boiler at a price you are prepared to pay, you should ask yourself if you have a good understanding of the costs of running a business.

Better still, do it yourself. How difficult can it be? I don't live next door and my kids don't rely on your knowledge of gas issues to keep them safe.
