Hi

I'm currently building a corner shower in my bathroom and have decided to use 6mm hardiebacker on the wall. I know you're meant to use 12mm for walls but I can't due to space. I contacted the manufacturer who said it was ok to use 6mm on walls as long as it has enough studs behind it. I was going to put the studs at 400mm centres but am now worried this wont be enough. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks

For the 12mm the studs can be 400 maximum. 6mm, although not recommended by hardie, i'd be concerned about it flexing.

I'd try 200 or 300 if i had too, but if you stick to 400, don't slip and go head-long into it or your tiles may just wobble loose.

What is preventing the 12mm?

400mm centres will be fine for 6mm use dwangs also,...and stagger your backer boards an it will be fine ie brick bond ur boards

Use blocking or double studs at inside corners to give a full edge fixing for the boards, and similar where the shower enclosure jambs fix to any stud walls ie make sure that they are pinned to studs not thin air.
