Hi all,

I have a Baxi Bermuda 552 back boiler which is working fine, however, when it kicks in on occasions it is tripping the power and those occasions are getting more frequent. It works fine once I flip the trip switch back. It usually happens when it first starts in the morning, but in the last week or two we have had it happen when the heating has been on for a while and is just firing up again. Is it likely to be an issue with the boiler, or with the Randall 3060 control unit, or something else? Any help would be much appreciated as we are moving house in less than two weeks and I want to get it sorted for the new owners.

Thanks

Does the system have any motorised valves similar to this...

and does it only trip when the central heating is running, or can it happen with CH off and only the hot water being heated?
I'm wondering if it's the pump that's to blame.

Sorry about all the questions but which type of power breaker is tripping..

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately I am not at home at the moment to check the valves and power breaker but I can say that it doesn't happen with the water being heated, it is only happening now we have our heating on too.

Assuming for the moment that your system doesn't use the pump when the boiler is heating up the water in the cylinder ( a gravity hot water system ), that does make it more likely the pump is causing the breaker to trip.

I wish I knew more about the system to know whether it is/isn't a gravity hot water system! So, would I need to call a plumber or an electrician to sort it out or is it part of the back boiler in which case I guess I'd need a gas guy to come out? Thanks ever so much for your advice.

Has the boiler been serviced? It probably has no bearing on the problem, but if it hasn't been done of late, get a RGI to service the boiler and investigate the tripping. But explain all when you phne someone.

It was services around a year ago so is due.

By the way I checked the circuit breaker and it's an RCCB one. Does that shed any further light on the issue?

Serious advice this time..
A decent gas safe registered guy should certainly be able to find electrical faults within your boiler. Just confirm with them when you call

Theres a guy on this forum called Dean7445, he seems to specialise in things like that. I think he's around the london area if that would be any good to you.

London is a bit far but I have a local guy booked in for Thursday now... Just hoping it isn't too expensive! Thanks for the advice
