Hi I wonder if anyone can help me - I am trying to remove the old waste from my bath and cant find a tool to help me - it looks like the previous house owner has glued the nut to the base of the bath and therefore I need to remove the visible part from within the bath first, the try to get at the nut under afterwards. Can anyone advise the appropriate tool to use for this? Also I have tried to use water pump pliers to remove the nut and it just wont budge!!, may be some careful hacksawing required, but any advice gratefully accepted.

Thanks

a picture would help us understand your problem... but a wrench has always done the trick for me.

Blowtorch.Heat. Bit more than you think. Enough to soften gunk but not discolour bath.

Cast iron bath 40+ years old? Gunk probably boss/hawk white or poss plumbers mait. 80+ years putty.

As above.

Is the waste as old as the bath? Is the backnut metal?

Dont hit or chisel anything - the enamel can be precious at the waste hole.

A Stilson/pipe wrench esp. if used with a "persuader" pipe slipped over the handle to extend leverage will shift most nuts - but only if you have room to use it. Use glove in case the tool slips.

google: smart dumbell - its a waste removal tool, you can make up something similar.
