Hi all,

My boiler has been playing up for a while now.

It is stuck in a loop where it fires up for a minute (or less most the time) then cuts out, then it makes a horrible noise then tries to fire up again and fails. After couple of attempts if fires up but then it cuts out again not long after. It carries on doing this throughout the period its set to be ON whether I manually turn it to be on constant or when its on a timer.

I have uploaded a video for you guys to see. The video is 3 minutes long, I was going to shorted it but thought it might be a bit better in real time.

When the video starts its fired up
@10 seconds it cuts out
@1 minute 5 seconds it tries to fire up again (fails)
@2 minutes 55 seconds it fires up again (successfully)
@3 minutes 18 seconds it cuts out again

This is the sort of loop I get throughout the time it is on.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks
Chris

Can you make sure there's nothing blocking the flue?? preferably visually inspect the inside of the flue. I've seen occasions where kids have thrown stones inside when the flues are low to the ground.

Clearly Storms, who is NOT a gas engineer, will be bound to sort it out.

I do think that someone who IS a gas engineer would be better placed though.

Hi Agile,

Do you mean better placed to give me advice on something to try, or to come out and fix the problem?

I don't know how a boiler works, if you can factory reset it or if there is stuff I can try like changing a fuse etc. This is why I'm posting in these forums. Give me some software to develop or a computer to fix and I'm fine but unfortunately plumbing/engineer isn't my trade.

Thanks Chris

You have a fault. Its hardware and not software.

Storms is NOT a boiler engineer, but still thinks he can tell you something simple that you can do to fix the problem! Just see what he can tell you to do! I will watch that for my entertainment!

Wrighty, time to get an engineer in, as tony mentions you have a mechanical issue with a component within the boiler, possibly with the pump or related.

It needs closer inspection with the case off to establish what is causing that, therefore you need an RGI.

Wow does everyone not get along in these forums?

I appreciate any help whether they are or aren't not an engineer, at least they have taken the time to reply.

I have checked the flue and its clear, I didn't want to reply to you because it seems Agile is giving you a hard time.

But cheers anyway

This is exactly the kind of reply I was expecting, thanks Rob!

Didn't need all the sarcasm, like I said in a previous post I didn't know if there was something I could try like a reset or something. Just a straight answer like yours is all I needed.

Thanks again

Fair enough. My next guess is that the gas valve is faulty, but as madrab has said you'd need a gas engineer to go further. Keep us updated.

Lol, unfortunately your post has got caught in the middle of some current wranglings between certain people on the forum Wrighty, it's not usually this argumentative and it's not directed at you :)

We do not take it kindly when somebody who has no knowledge of boilers tries to give advice which is not going to be helpful.

The problem is that lay users do not know what is good advice and what is not.

You should now find that Storms has been banned from giving any more "advice" on this site.

If you look at someone's profile they should have stated what they do and their background.

Moat people get along just fine, but Storms has appeared recently and got everyone's backs up with his bad attitude and terrible advice. Hopefully he'll be removed soon, or take himself away

As to your fault, hard to say even with the video I'm afraid. @Agile is very good with Biasi and if he can't offer any clues then it's definitely time to get a boiler engineer in to look at it

The only place to diagnose faults is in front of the boiler.

Unfortunately, you have not stated if this fault is ONLY on CH or on DHW as well. I will assume only on CH for the moment.

In this case when the boiler goes off it seems that the noisy diverter valve motor returns to the DHW position.

That implies to me that somehow the boiler is losing its CH demand.

If that's really the case then I would be wondering why that could happen and measuring voltages to see if external controls are functioning correctly with the room stat connections being the first place to check.
