Potterton Suprema 40 Locks out - Fan pproblem ?

I have a Potterton Suprema 40 Boiler. It started making a noise recently which sounds like Fan Noise.
There was some trapped Air in the Air Vent in the Airing Cupboard near he Pump and the Valve. Releasing that helped the Noise a bit. Today, I cleaned the Expansion Tank in the Loft before adding X100, but didn't fill the Tank back ; instead, just filled it till the inlet hole (hoping the full X100 would go in and then I would fill the tank). However, the Boiler locked out (Red lamp blinking). I thought it was due to lack of water, so re-filled the tank, reset the Boiler,but it still locked out. On opening the casing,I found that whenever the relay tries to start the Fan inside the Boiler, it fails and locks out. After I tried turning the fan manually, it started up. So it works for now, but fails to start the fan once in a while and locks up again.
Am I correct in assuming that the refilling of the Expansion Tank has nothing to do with this issue and the fan is on its way out ?
If so, I guess it's not too costly to replace the fan ?

You need to get the gas safe registered engineer to repair it as you have open the casing which is the gas side and shouldn't touch it.

Well, it is currently working, but a bit noisy.
Of course, I'd get a gas safe engineer to replace it - just trying to find out if it is the Fan and how much time and cost would it involve. I guess about an hour's Labour.

Should take about an hour for an RGI to replace the fan and check the gas settings and general operation.

Could be the fan, although the PCBs are decidedly shaky on these so it could also be that. Having said that, with the associated noise I'd be most inclined to say it's a fan problem

Now that you've opened the casing and disturbed the room seal on the boiler, you should turn it off and discontinue use until its safety can be confirmed by a professional who is familiar with the boiler. Failure to do this could lead to carbon monoxide leaking into your house, and as you can't see or smell it you wouldn't know until it was all too late

It has been working since then and the noise too is much less.
It was just 2 screws that needed removing for the outer casing - haven't touched anything else though. Could that still disturb the room seal ?

If you've opened it up enough to be able to see the fan, then you've disturbed the room seal.

OK - shall get it checked.
