As we're in a pedantic mood, the universe cannot possibly be unusual as, by definition, the universe is everything.
What I (and I think everyone) can't get my head around is trying to imagine travelling at the speed of light in any direction in space and never getting to the end of the universe. I'm told that it is because we have all lived our lives with borders and barriers of one description, so it is impossible to imagine anything without end.
Mind you, Dropclanger's blatherings go on without end, and I can imagine that easily enough.
Here is one to get your head round imagine standing on a beach cupping your hands together and grabbing biggest handfull of sand you can and let it slip through your fingers.
How many grains of sand is there ,
uncountable
now for every single grain of sand there is on this planet , not just one beach

If we are visited by another life form I hope to God they're not greeted by wan ks with turkeys, they'd soon be off.

It would (imo) be pretty naive to assume we are the only intelligent life out there.
Not only that, there could be races who are hundreds if not thousands of years ahead of us in technology, who could have mastered interstellar travel as well.

Lets be honest with ourselves, if aliens landed on earth, we'd either have to preempt and kill them just incase they tried to harm us or we could take a chance and incarcerate them but that could seriously backfire on us.

The reason that there is no intelligent life out there is that whenever a civilisation becomes advanced enough to destroy itself - they do. That's our destiny too, and it might not be that far away. A baby born today could conceivably live forever with medical science racing along, but so are weapons of mass destruction. Guess what my money's on?

Quite right. Why should we be the only ' civilised ' people in our Universe. Who can say that there isn't another civilisation a few light years away?
