Shower trap advice

Hi,
Whilst attempting to extract the 'inner insert' part of my long established (12+ years) shower trap to remove hair I managed to break it. This then lead to a rather unpleasant 2 hours of trying to get the remains of it out since much of it was still intact but also still in the trap. Anyways, I digress.
What is the proper name for the 'inner insert' part of a shower trap, the bit that can be taken out to clean hair from the trap? Where can I get a new 'inner insert' from or do I need to buy a new trap? I'm not going to be able to easily replace the entire trap, but if I can get a new 'inner insert' part that fits my existing trap then that'll do. Are the 'inner insert' parts standard and if not then what do I need to look out for?

Sadly you need to know the make of the trap - very rarely interchangeable.

But there are many different manufacturers of shower traps! McAlpine is one of the most widely used by plumbers but you will need to take measurements before identifying the one that suits your existing trap! It may take some effort but you will find one.

That's the thing I'm after a "shower trap insert tube".

I note both of your cautionary remarks about finding one to fit. Unfortunately the old one is now an impossible 3D jigsaw puzzle and so can't be used as a template. The trap will be very awkward to identify owing to its location so a trial and error approach may be needed. Are there any measurements I can take from the top of the existing trap to get started?

A photo will help one of us identify the trap... Make sure it's well lit and include a tape measure across the inner aperture for scale reference also depth from top to bottom. Include pic of cover plate/grate as well as this can help with identification.

I apologise for the delay in responding as your help is much appreciated, I've had difficulty getting to a suitable computer to upload the images (now uploaded). Should any one be able to identify the trap, or better still suggest a suitable replacement shower trap insert tube then that'd be most welcome.
