Stripping paint

I painted a door a few months ago and made a right pig's ear of it. I used water based paint over oil based and did everything I should i.e. flattened the old gloss, undercoated and then w/b gloss but I suspect my technique wasn't good enough so was left with horrendous brushstrokes.

So I want to remove the old water based paint and get back to a flat surface again which I would normally do with sandpaper and/or a sander but I'm concerned that as it's a lightly panelled door if I sand too much I could end up sanding the panels away!! Apart from taking care when sanding would it be easier stripping the paint off with either chemicals or a heat gun?

No just sand it flat. You don't sand the paint away - just the brush marks. Next time thin your paint and you won't get the same effect.

Lots of people think the thicker the gloss "Dulux for example" the better, Wrong, if it is too thick you get dragging leaving a horrid finish. I thin my paint slightly and get a perfect finish every time.
