Looking at changing my thermostat, advice please!

I understand the forum seems against Hive, all I'm looking for at the mo is a bit of control of the heating when we're out and on the way home etc! I can't afford to go the route previously stated on the thread at the mo!

Then hive, it's simple to use and does what your looking for it to do....
Yes u can swap existing kit emails / addresses by phoning the number in the booklet.

How often would you (or anyone else) actually need to do that?

Not sure really chap, I care for my wife and if we're out and it's cold then I'd like to be able to turn the heating on so its warm when we get back! It's not imperative but it might prove handy at times!

Thanks, so it will fit onto my existing backplate when I remove the controller for my Valiant Eco max!

All I wanted for dinner was Fillet Mignon and some foie gras. But I could only afford homemade Pork Belly Curry.

Which was lovely..... but you get my point.
Not really chap no! I know your against hive so I gather that's why you mean but as I say I'm after a little flexibility when I take my wife out if needed.

We don't know what setup you have at the moment so have no idea.

That's the controller chap

I can't comment on your compatability aspect, but can confirm that the ability to turn your heating up when you leave work at random times is brilliant. Also handy when you don't know if you'll be visiting mother for one hour or six hours - just click it on ten mins before you leave. It's akso better to programme than the "two settings per day" crap we used to have, just do it on your phone and copy it to tues and wed but not thur or sat etc.

To be clear I haven't researched other similar systems, but Hive has worked a treat for us for about 2 years and I can't fault it.

Thanks Alan, I'm going to take a chance, £50 for the V1 kit ain't a bad deal I think, do you have the V1 or 2 stat?
Thanks

It seems voice of experience means zilch. OP you do what you like, listen to Dan R, you will not be disappointed- get my drift?:cautious:

I appreciate what Dan R is saying, but your saying the voice of experience! So the guys here that have Hive and are happy with what it does, is that not the voice of experience as well? I understand that the other route maybe better but that's like saying don't buy a Ford because an Audi is far better surely, all I'm looking for at the mo is the ability to turn the heating on when I'm getting ready to leave somewhere with my wife and that would help a lot! I understand the other route will do loads more but it also costs loads more as well which as a Fulltime Carer for my wife is money I don't have! So for to turn round and say your statement is rather unfair! "Do what you like" All I came here for is bit of friendly advice which because I can't go the route that Dan R says so I keep getting slated by a few! Jeepers I could have gone on Facebook and got ridiculed! Thanks chap you've made my Sunday!

That's the V1, so you do everything via the app is that right or can you see something one the stat?

Everything is done via the app but you can also do things using the buttons/display on the stat - like switch the heating between off/on/timed, adjust the stat temp, and (on my particular system with a hot water cylinder) switch hot water between off/timed/boost. To be honest I don't know if you can programme the timers etc from the stat since it's so easy to do from your phone/tablet I've never tried.

I believe there are different models of Hive depending on whether you have a hot water cylinder or a combi system, so make sure you get the right one for you.

I'm also not a heating expert so can't comment on the alternative products mentioned earlier in the thread - maybe if I had one of them I'd be thinking how rubbish my Hive was? However Hive does what I wanted it for, ie the ability to switch the heating on when I leave work at random times of day and come home to a warm house.

Hope this helps :)
