plug sockets with usb connection ports

Even MK have jumped on the band wagon. I just don't like the idea of a small transformer that is always on regardless of any load behind a socket. Although saying that if I had to buy one it would be from MK.

I have a MK one and it's great. The BG ones are pretty decent too, and the white ones at least, fit in a 25mm back box

Wire it via a DP Switched FCU with 13amp fuse, Switch off when not in use - job done, yet complies with the 17th edition.

Why would you need to do that? It's no different to installing a shaver socket.

Infact, I'd rather a USB socket over those monstrous shaver transformers any day

That was kind of my concern? would there be a constant usage of power?

Didn't someone on here do a mock-up of an MK double socket with USB, with a third switch for the USB point? I'm sure someone will find it for me...

ISTR that when we last discussed this here, it emerged that some of them only switched on power to the PSU when a USB plug was inserted. Or did I dream that?

Kind Regards, John

I can't say I like the idea much, but then I'm not a great USB user either. I'd rather have "standard power" available at each outlet and just connect a power supply for whatever I need as required.

Almost every small device I own now charges via usb. Even the remote for my Apple TV now charges via USB (admittedly like once every 2 months). More and more things are becoming chargeable by USB, and in certain situations with limited sockets, you don't necessarily want an outlet permanently taken up by a USB charger.

For example; by a bed, the best chance scenario is a twin socket. If you have a phone and a smartwatch (both devices that require charging daily) that's game over. No space for a mains clock, bedside light etc.

They are for sure the future.
