hi
I'm curious to know how to open the cover on my stop cock for my house in the street and I would appreciate it if you could tell me how to try and open it up?
Thanks in advance

Seeing it has not been opened for ages, there is a lot of dirt around the edges.

Try scraping it out with a thin screwdriver.

Then try to find something solid and insert it in the slot and try to rock it sideways until it moves and then do some more clearing with the thin screwdriver.

The inside valve is probably a 1/2" square shaft.

But it might be a 3/4" too.

Thanks
I'll give it another try tomorrow as I will need to open it at some point and I don't want to be struggling in an emergency

You might find that it's screwed down - scrape out the two small divots either side of the main lifting hole and see if you can find a screw head. WD40 may be your friend here

The inset at the 4 o clock position isn't significant is it? If you clean it out there isn't a brass screw / bolt in there?
Or maybe it's a hole for a drift so you can unscrew the cover by knocking the drift with a hammer anti clockwise?

Ok thanks everyone I'll try scraping all the dirt out of the two holes and see what's under them and then give it another try
