Hi all,

Have a long on going issue at my mothers house, one ceiling light will work fine after its not been used for a while but occasionally after switching it off and trying to put it back on it doesn't work until as my mum says "you have to wait till its cooled down".

I've replaced the rose but still have the issue, next step is the switch.

Its a 3 gang switch with the faulty light in the middle. The common from this light seems to feed some wall lights which work fine. This is the only switch which controls the lights.

Anyone had a switch cause issues like this? And is there any reason they used L2 and not L1?

Possibly, I will pick up a new mk switch. Failing that I'll have look under the floorboards and see if there any joint boxes but everything appears to terminate in the ceiling rose.

why not temporary swop over the L2 wires in the two switches that have the coms linked, if the problem still exists on the same light then the switch is not the problem
You should isolate and proceed with caution, there may possibly be two circuits in that 3 gang switch
