Hi all, do you have to pay a subscription for the above as I am being asked to pay one for renewal, thanks for your time.

I think office 365 is renewable every year. The home/student office is a one off £100 or so.

Before you pay for it, consider how much of it and how often you use it.

Do you really need to pay so much when there are free equivalents available in open office or Libre office?
Sound interesting? Google the above 2 and you will find them and how well they make a good free replacement.

Office is full of stuff that I'll never use in a year of months of Sundays.

Been using Open Office for years. I swapped to Libre Office a while back because it imports some files better, but they are more or less the same.
I can't see why anyone uses anything else unless they have very specific needs.
As mattylad says. Give it a try!

Libre Office is excellent.
I've had some old Lotus files which I created using our very first computer (HDD = 1GB!), and hadn't been able to read them for years after we got rid of that unit. Some years ago, I downloaded (free) Libre Office and have used that to read the Lotus files.

Go with what you can afford.
Most businesses use MS Word, why chance something which may fail at the crucial moment ?

I owned a boxed set of Lotus stuff way back '95 probably - actually liked it, BUT the workplace was M$ So got stuck into that.
Currently Office 10 (student version). Have 2007 Enterprise, 2003 pro and 1995 Pro.
I know not what to say, guess it is all down to what makes us feel comfortable and is within our ability to purchase and use even a little efficiently.

Do not forget, when you pay for it - you are ahead of the game - Nice to afford that which 'anchors' cannot, this is what makes the difference-Twixt thee and I, well, in todays downmarket values anyway.

If going the Libre / Open Office route, go for Libre office. Open Office was owned by Sun which was taken over by Oracle and as of 2011 they donated it to the Apache Foundation. I believe that Libre Office is the best supported and fully featured of the open Office forks.

Office 365 is subscription based.

Other than access to the full Office suite of programs you get a generous OneDrive allowance and access to the Office files on your smartphone.

That said, if you only need limited functionality, you can use Word, etc for free via your browser.

I recently got a MS Lumia 950 XL phone, which entitles me to a free one year subscription to Office 365 personal.

I used Libre Office for quite a while. It does the job and is very good but I tried Microsoft Office 2016 Home & Student and reckon it is better. It integrates with OneDrive and the interface is better. Just a generally more polished program in my opinion.

Not being free is a big disadvantage but I bought it anyway (£93 from Amazon). This hurt a bit but it's bought now and it will no doubt last me for years.
