Hoover Logic 1100 A8536 - Help required with problem

Hi, can someone out there please help me with a very old Hoover wash/dryer machine.
It started leaking and after taking the back cover off, I found that it is spewing dirty water out of the 2 holes in the outer drum just below where the drum pulley is attached.
Also, there is what looks like a water trap, (clear plastic "small bottle") which is attached at the back of the outer drum that has a exit tube which attaches to a pressure switch via a plastic tube. It used to fill with water but has stopped doing this, seems to be blocked. I have tried removing the 2 clamps and short black rubber pipe that attaches the "water trap" to the back of the drum, but it will not come loose.
Firstly, does anyone have any idea why it is leaking out of these 2 holes and what the purpose of these holes are?
Secondly, what is this "Water Trap" for and how do I remove it to clean it out?
Thirdly, does the "blocked water trap" have anything to do with the leak from the 2 holes as explained above.
I would really appreciated any suggestions.

Frank. If these holes are near the centre of the outer rear and water is coming out it indicates that the bearing seal has failed. Water will now be getting in to the bearings and they will gradually break up. If is possible to replace the bearings and seal but it is a labour of love. Most people will buy a new machine rather than undertake such a repair.

The small pipe should come off the on the rear. Try levering off or getting something between the tube and the stub. If it has been on years it will be reluctant to come off.


As water fills the machine water pressure acts on this chamber and the pipe to the pressure switch. If the tube is blocked the machine will continue to fill up. Even more water will come out of two holes at the centre rear of the machine. Try and remove pipe from the tub rear and at the pressure switch. Blow through to check it is clear. Attach to the pressure switch and blow again through other end. You will hear it switching on/off with pressure.

Thanks sheer1delight. The short rubber pipe has now moved and I can move it away a couple of mm from the stub but the plastic chamber will still not release. Do you know if it needs to be screwed out or maybe needs to be moved left or right before pulling it out. Currently it won't move at all and I am worried that if I twist it too much it will break off.

I assume you have removed the clamps. The short hose should come off the stub and the chamber out of the hose. Can you get a small screwdriver in between the hose and the stub of the container and move it round the stub to break any grip the hose has on the container stub. Likewise can you not get something between the hose and the stub of the drum to help break the grip between the two. You need to turn and pull the container at the same time. It has been in there for years and doesn't want to part company. The same is true for the hose on the drum stub.
