Hi,
I am in the process of redoing my bathroom which was 100% tiled. I have taken off the old tiles which has damaged some of the skim but nothing major. I am looking to 50% tile one of the walls around the bath area and fill in/re-skim to level the other half to paint which includes a recessed window which I tend to tile upto one edge.

Is it best to tile first and then re-skim upto the tile line or skim the whole wall then tile on top?
Cheers

The area you are putting the tiles on can just be skimmed over with tile adhesive after you have scrapped the old adhesive off,,You are only filling in hollows and flattening it out. You can draw a line where your tile is going to finish on the wall and just skim the top half and finish it just past your line..;)

The type of tile will determine what you can do.
A skimmed wall can take 20kg/m2, a plaster board wall 32kg/m2 and hardy backer around 100kg/m2.
If it's light weight tiles do what ever will save you the most money/ do the job quickest whichever is your preference.

I would not want to skim up to the tiles, I would tile after you have skimmed what every option you do.

I didn't mean skim up to tiles,I meant skim it just past the tile line and that should comensate for the tile adhesive where plaster meets tiles. If the skim is level the tiles or trim
(which you will probably use) will finish it off nicely. I have done that a few times in my working life no probs... ps I am still working..
