I'm helping someone to install a home safe and we've hit a snag.

The position has been decided upon and the wall prepared. The wall had plasterboard, then a gap, then high density concrete blocks. We've cut out the plasterboard and skirting so it can fit flush up to the wall.

The snag is that all four pre-drilled holes line up horizontally and vertically about a quarter of an inch from the edges of the blocks, too close to the edges to use anchor bolts.

If the safe were moved along a bit horizontally the mortar line will always be too close, so we'd need to sit in on a plinth to raise it and move it horizontally to get the pre-drilled holes away from the edge of the blocks.

Is there another way we can secure it to wall where it is, another method that will work even very close to the edge of the blocks? Or are we worrying over nothing, can we go ahead and use anchor bolts right on the edge of the blocks?

Any advice appreciated.

Fix some strips of metal to the blocks - with anchor bolts - and then fix the safe to the metal.

That would be a good solution, though we don't have any metal strips, and not so good at working with metal.

After a cup of coffee, head scratching and looking around his shed, we came up with a solution. There were some lengths of 4x4 fence post offcuts, enough to make a substantial base. It lifted the safe by 4 inches, we moved it sideways a bit, and now have the holes in a good position. The base will screw down into the floor joists, and the safe attach to the wall with anchor bolts and to the newly made base with large coach bolts.

What seemed like a nightmare earlier is now solved, well in the process of anyway.

Adhesive foam would have made a secure fix .

Thank you, we thought that was a great suggestion, so loosed the bolts and let the safe away from the wall a little, put expanding foam down the back and also underneath inside the plinth. Tightened it all back again and let the foam bond the back of the safe to concrete blocks and the bottom to the floor and inside edges of the plinth.

Thanks for the suggestions, it feels really securely fixed now.
