Stuck attachment

Hi guys, sticking a solar lantern up and I've managed to get the plastic attachment stuck in the metal pole. On the picture you can see where it meets that it's to tight. Any suggestions to loosen it?

Try giving it a few squirts of WD 40 and let it soak for a while.

Pour a kettle of boiling water over the joint and pull plastic out while its wrapped in a dry rag.
