Hi

Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this question.

Basically we have a long boundary wall in need of repair. Neither side is the owner according to the deeds. On my side of the wall is a long block paving driveway. Neighbour now wants to take wall down and replace with featheredge fencing and gravel boards.

My question is, will the gravel boards support the block paving sufficiently and what should I do / ask for to make sure my driveway is not compromised?

Thanks
Mike

Yes, Gravel board should be fine as long as its the 12" or 1ft type and they may have to back fill or make good your drive after the fence has been put up...thats IMHO..

I think the gravel boards will benefit from being haunched in concrete. Block paving needs a firm curb or it may spread.

Thanks

Anything else I need to be aware of? The deeds do not specify who owns the boundary so I've been told it's then usually 50/50. The neighbour has only recently moved in and hasn't spoken to me at all about this. Just a note through the door saying what they plan on doing and it'll start in a few weeks time. If he is expecting me to contribute i would prefer get 3 quotes in. As it stands I have no idea if they are expecting me to contribute or how much it will cost. It is a lengthy brick wall at the moment and being replaced with fence which IMO won't look as nice. But, most of the wall is visible on neighbours side as we have a garage in the way and a 6" high fence and bushes on our side so not a big deal. In fact with the new fence on the boundary we could get rid of our fence and bushes and gain 3 feet of extra driveway width.

Apparently their builder said it was dangerous and the foundations are insufficient. It has crumbly mortar in places but is straight and been standin since 1930.

Any advice appreciated. I do intend to speak to them but they keep themselves to themselves. Only had this letter so far.

If he's doing it without asking your permission, or opinion, it sounds like he thinks the wall is his...

Can you put any pics of it up...so we can have a better idea of position?
