Dulux endurance+ matt paint for pipe boxing

Hi, I have just painted my walls with a few coats of endurance+ and now need to turn my attention to the pipe boxing in (waste pipe) that runs the length of one wall. The other half wants it the same colour / finish as the walls and I wanted to know if anyone has used the endurance+/Diamond matt paint on bare wood?

I actually plan to prime the wood first with either:

1. Dulux white emulsion thinned a little with water then 2 coats of the endurance+
or
2. Dulux professional undercoat (spirit based - normally used for glossing afterwards) then 2 coats of the endurance+

My mind tells me to go with 2.

Anyone any experience with this type of application for the endurance range?

You should always prime bare wood with a wood primer, not emulsion or undercoat. Use an acrylic (quick drying) primer and give it a couple of coats sanding in between, then you're good to go with the endurance emulsion.

As ic1927 says, a primer or combined primer/undercoat is required on bare wood first. (So many people think undercoat does the same job, but it really doesn't.)

Ok cool. thanks for that. I have an old tin of homebase weathercoat "quick drying exterior primer undercoat". Any reason the exterior product should not be used inside too. Saves me a few quid buying an interior specific one......

If latter then is WICKES TRADE ALUMINIUM WOOD PRIMER okay stuff or would WICKES UNIVERSAL PRIMER 2.5L or would DULUX TRADE QUICK DRY WHITE PRIMER & UNDERCOAT 1L be a better bet. They are all about £17 but the Wickes universal is 2.5L versus 1L for others.

Sorry to be a numpty but there are blinking dozens of different products out there just to prime wood...... Prefer a universal one so I can use it for other future projects (metal/wood/etc).

Use the homebase one, don't use the aluminium primer because water based coats don't go well over it, it bleeds through. If you have to buy an acrylic primer toolstaion have 2.5l of Leyland acrylic primer/undercoat for £9.78 which is a bargain for a good quality paint.
