No I wouldn't be happy with that, what did he cut them with I would have used a top cutting wet wheel, if they were chipping like that.

I'd say they've been dry cut, but no, definitely not acceptable. Did he warn you about it before hand, or, as I suspect, this is just an excuse for poor workmanship, because you don't spend out on porcelain tiles, and then expect it to look like a botch job.

There was no warning beforehand, when I pointed it out I was made to feel a bit daft,of course there will be chipping he said! The tiles weren't inexpensive,so am disappointed with the final finish!

You're going to have to confront him, and tell him it's an unacceptable finish on an £xx tile, and as he didn't warn you before hand, he has no right to leave it finished off like that. Stand your ground.

Has he been paid yet.

He was subcontracted by the bathroom company, who haven't yet been paid!

Then take it up with them; I suspect (well I hope) that they'll take a different viewpoint.

They also told me that I should of expected edge chipping!Thought it was just me being fussy, but glad to hear that it isn't acceptable!!

Edge chipping is not something that should be expected, by any stretch of the imagination. It implies that you've had other porcelain tiles fitted before, and you are well aware of what will happen. As no one want a badly finished bathroom, you'd have discussed ways to cover over "the inevitable" poor edge finish. Warn them that you'll be taking independent advice.

You didn't mention how the tiler cut the tiles though,

I'm unsure how he cut them,as we weren't when he was fitting them.We have the someone from the company coming over tomorrow to have another look, how should he have cut them? They seem to be covering there mistakes by making me feel daft!

Wet cutters do a better job, and sometimes, you'll need to do a few test cuts to find the best method that works for a particular tile. I've just worked on some 9mm porcelain tiles, and they cut like a dream on a cheap 600mm manual cutter, but I doubt it'll work so well on the polished porcelain that I've got to do next.

Just look them straight in the eye, and ask them if they consider it an acceptable job, and when they say yes, just tell that you don't, and they'll need to redo it if the want paying, else you reserve the right to get someone else to redo the work, and they'll have to pay for the replacement tiles as well.

Try asking them to show you other jobs they've done where the tiles have been chipped.
