Honeywell - Tuxedo vs Galaxy TouchCenter

How come 5 years ago Honeywell could produce this for the Vista system...

Do I read correctly that the Ademco/Vista system is non existent in the UK? And there's nothing similar that incorporates a modern UI, video, home automation, etc? It appears the UK is way behind the US in terms of home automation. :(

PS. I suspect the answer is "because Honeywell".

Interestingly, a new firmware option for the 'Tuxedo Touch' panel is in some of the newer firmwares. No announcement on this from Honeywell though!

Interesting. Which version of the firmware have you seen this in? Does it actually allow you to configure a TT into the panel?

The TouchCenter was actually made for the American market and bodged into the Galaxy range - hence the three LEDs on the RHS that don't actually do anything. It does appear that Honeywell US are moving on and up and Honeywell UK really don't care any more.
 
We fitted ademco ( Honeywell ) panels years ago in the 90,s think the issue is when you start with a American based panel , it doesn't conform to our standards and what it costs to get these panels to conform is not worth the time and money ...

its a lot of work getting standards approval but would think Honeywell could afford it?

Orisec will be new on the scene next year although they are trade selling their new bell series right now, whilst the name is new, the people behind the scenes are not new to alarm systems, all of it will be UK manufactured apparently.
 
The Orisec products on their website look pretty aged already. Hopefully they have a new range ready. It's a tough market, especially if they plan UK manufacture, where the labour costs are over ten times that of low cost countries. It will be interesting to see their price list.

Approval of security products can be self certed by the manufacturing company. They can also be third party certed to the manufacturing companys spec. It's a strange setup.

As far as the LCD keypad goes, it's all in firmware anyway, so not really about an American product. The three LED's are not allowed in UK standards. They could have been made optional in Galaxy options, but Honeywell have chosen not to allow that.
 
interesting you say have a new range ready as only the bells have been released so far as nothing is finalised yet it could change I guess.

but only way forward is feedback prior to release?

its all crazy stuff just want stuff that works well.
 
I was only going by the keypads and panels shown on the website. Maybe that's old stuf

Alarm manufacturers need to look at the interactive display technology that people are used to on tablets and phones. They are high res, capacitive devices and only a few mm thick. To design new devices that are in 1 inch+ thick cases with resistive low res lcd's is pretty much redesigning what's been out there for the last ten years already.

I'd like to see a company come out with something that gives the 'wow' factor - both functionally and physically.

the terminal connections are the single biggest depth on the rear of any keypad or batteries on wireless keypads

screens are relatively thin, although I suspect there are thinner screen techs around think of a phone and what it can do and is depth,but put on terminal blocks on the back of your phone and the depth is doubled?
 
For a slim tablet style device, I'd be happy to crimp on a smaller connector, or use some pre-wired connection in the backplate in the same manner as some of the waterproof prox readers or contacts where the connection ends up elsewhere (soldered and shrunk in the cavity or another device with a terminal block). In this day and age, the connector shouldn't be holding back the device.
 
Sorry to reopen an old thread, however our TouchCenter at work is duff. For reasons unknown to the maintenance company and Honeywell, all zones on line 2 cannot be omitted through the interface (it says they are but they aren't).

The suggested solution was the new TouchCenter Plus which looks a little more high-tech than the original whilst still maintaining a 800x400 screen!

I have to agree with @ecs0set all current UK alarm systems are afflicted with appallingly primitive interfaces (keypads) this includes so called modern smart alarm systems even those from new Internet style startups such as Ring. (Now part of Amazon.)

The only current one in the UK I have found that comes even close is the Satel Integra with their touch screen although the graphics are rather primitive.

So hideous are current products that one would almost prefer being robbed than to be afflicted with the butt ugly keypads UK systems come with and that you would have to walk past every day. One would even have to cover it with a towel to avoid being embarrassed to your guests who might otherwise wonder at your appalling lack of taste. (Unfortunately these forums do not seem to have the vomit emoji otherwise that would fully reflect the hideousness of UK alarms.)

Whilst the excuse for UK alarm systems refusing to integrate in general with other products can be justified slightly on security grounds, using such primitive and ugly keypads has no excuse especially when as is the case here Honeywell's US operations do offer far superior options.

Note: Texecom now seem to have an API via which one can do some integrations but their keypads reach new lows of ghastliness. If they added a decent Touchscreen - which I have asked them to do then they might be a worthy candidate.

I have been considering a DSC PowerSeries with its touch panel even though it is also ancient technology and not supported by UK 'security' companies - it can at least be obtained in the UK, but its touch screen whilst slightly better than the Honeywell TouchCentre is still inferior to the Honeywell 6290W screen. I therefore found this thread when searching for any options to get a Honeywell Vista panel in the UK. So far the only options I found are imports from the US.

Was the Honeywell Vista range ever sold in the UK? I thought British Gas at one point rebadged it and therefore one would have expected to find some parts suppliers. (Actually it may have been the DSC PowerSeries that British Gas used.)

Does anyone have any suggestions on sourcing a Vista panel for the UK? Are there any better 220v solutions for Vista panels? Would the LTE i.e. cellular module work in the UK or is there no point being as it will never be professionally monitored.

What bits are needed to mix wired and wireless sensors?
 
Yes vista panels where sold in the U.K. and fitted by British Gas but like most US Alarm panels they where a pile of c**p and not suitable for the U.K. market
