Hi there,
Hope someone could give me some advice.
I am going to replace an old Legrand 498 90 with a Salus RT500RF Box
s-l1600.jpg

The current thermostat has 3 wires as shown in the picture
The Salus box has 4 connections
1 - NO - Normally Open
2 - Com - Linked Live Feed
3 - L - Live Feed 230 AC
4 - N - Neutral

Currently the old thermostat is not working so good and is placed in the coldest part of the house thus the heating is constantly on.
I am wanting to replace the old thermostat is in the hall with the salus box and then use the remote room thermostat in the living room to have more control over the heat in that room.

Could someone please look at the picture attached and advise and which wires go where.
I have isolated the power already and am awaiting you expert reply.

on the old Legrand thermostat
1 - Thin red wire
2 - Red wire with yellow end
5 - Earth - Yellow/ green wire

Thanks in advance

OK so after hours of asking people on Facebook the most common answer and the one that fits what i've googled is this one.

The red will be permanently live and the yellow tipped with be a switched live to be triggered by your room thermostat
The neutral isn't regularly used only if you have an led screen on the new one, or to make the switching faster then you'll need one
Earth is earth
Common will be the solid live (red)
Switched (yellow) with be NO

Hope this info helps others...

I will test this out in the morning and report back here for others as i know a few of my friends also have similar situations with the original thermostats that are in pre 1987 houses

The legrand is just a live switch between your programmer/timeswitch and boiler for CH. It may also be your only interlock on the boiler (wired to and from a thermostat link in the boiler). As you haven't posted details of the rest of your setup, I can't say. The salus receiver unit requires to be powered from the same switched fuse that the boiler uses (as it's generally mounted adjacent to the boiler). Although it requires power to work, it can be used as a volt free switch on the common and NO contacts using the thermostat feed from and to the boiler, or by linking the live to the common and using it to switch 230v to the boiler as a switched live. You must check which your boiler is designed to use, and what voltage is used (some boilers utilise either method). If your boiler produces it's own low voltage (eg 24v) for volt free thermostat switching and you feed 230v to it, then you could goose your pcb.
