Hi all hope you can help with a problem. On our Salus RT500 we have had it on frost protection mode all summer so we can control the heating ourselves and it has been fine we just overide it when we need the heating on. The issue is that the heating has started to come on even though the unit says it's on frost protection mode which is a bit worrying as it's gettting very hot. Any suggestions do you think changing the batteries would help or do you think it could be another issue.
Many thanks in advance

Salus seem to have certain feline qualities in that they do what they want, when they feel like it.

They are also quite pretty to look at (the blue back lighting being particularly attractive)

And they are cheap.

Now I've run out of nice things to say about them. You could try a couple of fresh batteries as a cheap first option - although see first comment above, it'll probably take a couple of hours to register what you have done, before it even thinks about speaking to your boiler receiver.

If that fails, I've only 2 words remaining - Honey and Well.

Good luck!

Thank you for your responding I see what you mean about the cheap bit. Will try the batteries and take it from there.
Many thanks

I must be the only person in the world who likes Salus RT500. Apart from interference with other signals - where you can reset the frequency quite easily - and cheap batteries I have never had any issues.

You don,t have a problem with your RT500, Its simply someone nearby with their wireless thermostat is controlling your thermostat.
All you need to do change the frequency on your thermostat and receiver, read your instructions and it will explain.

fitted loads of Salus, only one issue with a faulty receiver.
all problems have been caused by original installer not following instructions.

Thanks for the replies, been awake since the early hours the boiler just comes on until the temp reaches 23 degrees but keeps coming on when it drops below that. Going to ring the landlord first but experience tells me it won't be sorted easily

Sounds like the issue may be with it picking up another wireless device as it has been fine until the last few days where it comes on when it feels like it. Not confident about changing the wireless settings myself so may have to ring them up.

It is straightforward to change the settings provided you can access the right place on the transmitter and the receiver. You will have 5 little pins or jumpers in a line on one (probably all in place) and 5 little levers in a line on the other (probably all up).
Imagine the chap next door has the same Salus. And he has the same settings. He could be turning your heating on and off and you might be doing likewise. However it could be some totally different transmitting device causing the interference.
So if you take the middle pin out of your one and push the middle lever down your Salus should still communicate with itself but not be affected by anything else. If your dead unlucky something else might interfere. Then for example take the 2 outside pins out and move the 2 outside levers down as well.
It is just a question of whether or not you can access the levers and pins. Remember the receiver could be live so isolate the power.

If you change the jumpers, don't forget to press the unit reset. It's most likely a standard cross talk problem from another unit in the area as mentioned above. I've fitted dozens and dozens of Salus units professionally, and have never had any problems with them (feline or otherwise) apart from the odd cross talk with older type units. I find them as reliable as anything else. I like them too.

Does this advice definitely relate to the RT500BC? I'm trying to fit this model but I cannot see any levers on the boiler control unit and the manual only makes reference to the jumpers on the back of thermostat unit, advising that all that is required to change the RF ID code is to remove a jumper and reset the thermostat. I cannot however get the control unit LED to light up when I try to sync the two

You didn't say it was an rt500bc in your initial post.
Have you read the manual properly?

SYNCHRONISING THE BOILER CONTROL
(a) RT500 programmable room thermostat RF Sync mode
- Press and hold "SELECT" to enter ID transmission;
ID code is set by 5 position jumper switches;
- TX sends ID code for 10 minutes.
- during 10 minutes synchronisation, LCD shows "Sy" on
temperature digits and the timer will count down.
- during 10 minutes synchronisation, pressing any key can interrupt ID
code transmission and LCD will return to normal mode, i.e.
temperature and clock.
(b) Boiler Control RF Sync mode
- Press and hold "SYNC" button on the boiler control for a few seconds to
enter ID learning mode, LED flashes.
- Until ID is captured and memorized into EEPROM (within max 12
minutes), LED stops flashing and stays ON (relay close) or OFF (relay
open) if ID is never captured, LED will keep flashing to alert user to
re-sync, until 12 minutes timeout.
To pair the RT500 to the Boiler Module simply press and hold the sync
button on the Boiler module for 3 seconds, at the same time press and
hold Select on the RT500 for 3 seconds, after 3 seconds at the same time
release both the sync button on the boiler module and the select button on
the RT500.
If the Boiler Control successfully receives a signal from the RT500 during the
pairing operation, the Boiler Control will store the new RF address code into
its internal memory. The LED will flash twice if the code is stored correctly,
or 4 times if this was unsuccessful.

No my advice will not work for the BC model. Only the RF model.
There are no levers only jumpers to pull out.
The instructions have been kindly supplied above.
