Hi there

I have just fitted a new radiator bought from scewfix and used the free Drayton TRV set which came with it. I've never fitted them before but the adjustable end seems to be giving a bit of an issue. The system has been refilled, bled of air but the new radiator only heats on one side and across the top which is leading me to think that the adjustable tap side isn't on. It's showing 6 but having never fitted one before I'm unsure if there is a particular way of attaching the adjustable section to the rest of the valve. I'm guessing if it's not making the right connection then it won't open.

Could someone just tell me if there is a specific way to fit the top of the adjustable valve and if so what it is, and also is there a way to tests the workings without the adjustable top on?

Many thanks in advance..!!

Well it was drained down to fit the new rad. I have it serviced every year but I don't know if he cleans it through to be honest as I'm always at work.

A standard boiler service, would not include draining the system down.
It is possible that dirty water or sludge in the circuit is causing this issue, worth having the system cleaned, if that has not been done recently. I would recommend a system is cleaned every 3 years and an inhibitor reintroduced.

Ok. I shall look into that. All the other rads are getting hot so is there a way of maybe forcing this one..?? If I turn all the others off and just run that one just in case there's air in there..?? Water comes out of the bleed valve..

Did you check the lockshield at the other side of the rad? Many are supplied in a shut position. What size pipework feeds the rad? If it's small bore, then they can become airlocked on a refill and as you rightly say, turning off the other TRVs will force the air through.

I did and it was supplied shut. It's open now. Should the top of the trv just screw on, there's nothing I need to do to it first is there?

Take the trv head off.Turn the trv head to number 6 and place over valve and tighten

There is definitely nothing coming through the trv.... I'm just wondering if I've got the trv and the lock shield on the wrong sides of the rad.....

Leave the trv head off. If the head is off then the trv is fully open. Is the pin sticking up? Can you push the pin up and down?

That should not stop water flow/return. You said you were getting heat to the rad, are the tails at the lockshield warm?
