Cutting hole in door for flush handles

Hi,

I have flush circular handles but am unsure of the best way to make the hole for them to sit in, it only needs to be approx 8mm deep.

I was hoping to use a drill bit that is used to make the holes for kitchen hinges but I need the hole to be 37mm diameter.

The door is just a cheap moulded door so is wood covered with hardboard so it hard to chisel.

Any advice would be great.

Look for Hinge cutter bits (normally 35mm) or forstner bits but unless you get an adjustable bit you're going to struggle with getting one that's 37mm...are you sure the instructions for the handles don't specify a more common hole diameter? Axminster sell an adjustable bit but it's £80! http://www.axminster.co.uk/axcaliber-adjustable-tct-boring-bit-501990

Cheaper adjustable bits can be had but they tend to be spade end.

Thanks, unfortunately I bought them off eBay and had assumed they would be standard. I'll try the 35mm and then try to chisel a bit extra. There is a lip so I have a bit of contingency
