Hi

I'm looking at building a workbench for my garage, and wanted to include an electric saw of some kind built into/around it. I will be looking at making a few cabinets, tables etc as a bit of a hobby.

What are the advantages of a table saw over a miter saw? I can only afford to buy one, so what would you recommend?

Can one type handle more/different types of cuts than the other.

Anyone have any comments of either of these types of saw?

Thanks.

Table saws can be used to rip wood down the length as well as cross cut and mitre cut whereas chop saws can only crosscut and mitre cut. The chop saw is better at mitre cutting and crosscutting long timber lengths (e.g. 5 ft and above) than the table saw, but for shorter lengths the table saw can hold its' own

dont know what your budget is, but you may be able to pick up a flip over saw second hand at a reasonable price, so you will have both saws in one.
