hi
having trouble getting any info out of retailers (including the often-recommended Max@mapp).
I want a system with app based alerting (over internet) AND sms based alerting (for when my receiving devices is simple GSM only - might be in poor reception area).
Happy for the internet app comms to be over GPRS (in fact good thing, don't want to rely on broadband).

so I think the digi-gprs-sim module will be what I need, but can I find a manual for it? anyone got now or know exactly what capability it provides. Is it a multi-network sim builtin , whats the subscription for it (and for the app side)?

any help appreciated, almost decided on an enforcer system but just can't get the detail out of sellers.

I would suggest that is because you are not an intruder alarm engineer.

A lot of places will not supply people who are not trade, and rightly so.

ps. If you have to worry about the signalling costs, you can't afford it.

why can't I afford it? just want to know is it 10quid or 100 quid or 1000 quid, i can afford all 3, but you don't buy without understanding what you are getting and making value considerations? not unreasonable to try to find out?

I've had several alarm engineers round and not been impressed with being treated like a "USER" (and very high quotes), given this system is highly recommended on here and the view is you will get plenty of help, surely not unreasonable to ask for a simple pointer to where/what the specs are? the kits are on retail sale, so specifications should (and probably have to be, legally to comply with distance sale) available?

i understand my honeywell evohome heating system way better than the guys who installed it (who were "engineers" in their trade) , knowledge doesn't have to be restricted to those who do the thing for a living.

anyway, if you don't want to help thats fine, but if anyone else does, great.

Firstly regulations to selling is different B2B than it is to the end user, most sellers claim to be trade only but will sell to just about anyone.

If you want support, the the likes of Pyronix is engineer only, although help is around if your prepared to wait.

as for things way better, the marketing hype doesn't always reflect a systems true capabilities, don't know of any system that is perfect all the time.

so you want the home control + kit to use the app and a gsm sms mode running side by side?

You want to know what the running costs are, I believe te app is free for the first year and then chargeable after that.

yes, exactly, am I correct that home control panel with DIGI-GPRS-SIM module will provide that?

do you know any figure? for the app subscription and the sim subscription?
thanks

Unfortunately as i dont do these panels on home control i have no idea about the fees, tried to find guidance on the pyronix website and couldn't find it referenced either.

We have fitted a few Home APP with GPRS and the annual Pyronix cloud/ server cost is only £30......

With regards to data usage its very efficient indeed BUT it all depend on your usage of the alarm...
I would say £20-40 annually is a typical data cost....If you add the cameras however then you need
to be real and understand video footage over 4G is going to cost.

You also need to realise if you get stuck, its time to call a professional installer as the distributor and Pyronix
will not offer tech support....

I will say the manual is very good..Never been impressed with PYR tech support anyway..Visonic is miles better!
Be careful asking distributors all the tech questions as they will see you as a liability and refuse to sell...
As long as you have a techy background, you'll be fine!

Crack on,
Matt

thanks matt, thats exactly what I wanted. I do have a (very) techy background. I've RTFM on the control panels and comfortable with it, was just feeling hampered by lack of documentation on the gprs capability/costs.

my cams are running separate system over infinity broadband, data usage for that not a consideration for the alarm.

I've just ordered a pyronix system, from a distributor who was helpful at finding out the app and gsm costs. which are entirely reasonable. app@36/year, app+data@72/year.
