Boiler control vs thermostat

Hi all!

I have a condensing boiler, and I have recently fitted a wireless thermostat.

My simple question is: does the thermostat override the settings on the boiler (the on/offs that used to control our heating) or do they work in conjunction with one another (ie the thermostat will control the temperatures only when the settings on the boiler tell it to fire, the rest of the time it's off as it was pre-thermostat)

If the latter is the case, would there be any problem with setting the boiler to permanently on, and just letting the thermostat control the heating completely, when the house is up to temperature the thermostat will stop demanding heat, and the boiler will oblige, even though it's set to permanently on.

Or am I missing something?!

Thanks

You may be missing.

If the new stat controls heating times, then the boiler settings should be to run all the time.

So the usual set up is boiler set to permanently on, thermostat to "override" this and stop demand when room is up to temperature?

Depends on whether you have a programmable thermostat that can be set to automatically change it's temperature settings a number of times a day. Then you would set the boiler timer to be on permanently.

If it's only a basic room thermostat you would let the boiler timer handle the scheduling of periods when you want heating to be on/off.

This what I have, a programmable salus rt500, so this sets temperatures for different times of the day, and the boiler therefore should be permanently on?

My only question with this is, when the room gets to temperature and the thermostat stops demand, if the boiler is switched to permanently on will the thermostat override this and turn it off till its needed again?

The boiler being set to permanently on just means that it has completely given up control to the salus.

It will go on/off when it is told to by the thermostat.
