Yebbut terminals are rated for 1.5mm cables. 2 x 0.5mm flex shooulnd't be too difficult.
It certainly wouldn't worry me, but the OP appeared to be looking for (needing'?) a 'totally straightforward' approach!

What I would probably do if I were in the OP's position is probably best not said here :)

I've got a 20a 4 way junction box and some 2 core flex so now I just need to wire it up I'm not too bothered about complexity I just want to make sure it's right and safe

well a 20A round JB is fine, but it's much bigger than you need it to be (physically) a 6A round JB is tiny in comparison and does exactly the same job
 
How are you going to stop the wires pulling out of this 20 amp junction box
