Thank everyone. I try not to trim the copper because it will make it shorter. Do you think insulating tape like below any good to replace the sellotape?To be fair, the OP selected the correct switch and wired it as found. They checked the UK wiring colours and questioned what would happen if they reversed the wiring. What's wrong with that ? Is that not what this site is about ?
The termination of the wiring is appalling, yes ? So why not tell them how to improve their practical electrical skills buy using side cutters to trim the copper and where the flex grip should be fitted …… it's DIY

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that but, if the OP would find it difficult, I would probably be inclined to refer him to Lectrician's previous suggestion.
True, but the pic seems to suggest that there would be no problem in cutting off a few mm of the exposed cores - the terminal screws are even in unusually convenient places!
He can - but neither you nor I (nor many of the others around here) would do it, so does it necessarily make sense for him to be 'advised' to do it?
