Salus RT500RF Programmable Room Stat Questions

I need some help - desperately!

Out Salus RF500/Altech ALTHC014 has seemingly packed in on the coldest night of the winter thus far!

I've replaced the batteries and the thermostat is showing the animated flame - but the boiler is not coming on...

I've tried resetting the receiver. I've tried using different variations on the dip switches, to no avail.

I presume there's no way of testing the signal other than whether the green light on the receiver is active when the thermostat triggers it?

I've got two young kids so desperate to get it working tonight... Is there any easy way to over-ride the thermostat? I've got a Vaillant 831 if that makes any odds...

THANKS!

Panic over!

Despite putting 2 brand new alkaline batteries into the remote unit, it seems it was a battery issue.

I swapped the brand new batteries with 2 old ones from a TV remote, and it all springs back into life.....

The last time I buy Tesco batteries!!!!

Please would you email you instruction to me.

This function 5 is confusing the hell out of me !!

Many Thanks
Tony

The reason the stat is coming on during the night/ always being on is setting number 5, there are 5 settings on the Salus

1 is the time you want heating on eg, 07.00 and set the temp (20)

2 is the time you want it to go off eg, 10.00 and set the temp (10 this will turn it off)

3 is the time to come on an evening eg. 17.00 and set the temp (20)

4 is the time you want it to go off eg, 23.00 and set the temp (10 this will turn it off)

5 the problem many people have is that they do not set number 5 correctly, this is a night/ frost stat and if you don't set the time and temperature same as 4 ie, 23.00 and 10*c then the heating will stay on.

I have had quite a few customers who struggle with the instructions so i typed it out in plain English as a word document and give it to them so its easier, if you want send me your e-mail address and i will mail it to you.

Hi im desperate to try and sort this issue, the house is currently painfully hot for the children. Please can anyone who has them send the written instructions from Leeds plumber to [email protected].

I'd really appreciate it. The thing seems to behave itself the rest of the day them play merry hell at night.

Thanks

If you post your temperature settings in 1 to 5 (in particular have you set number 5 to a low temperature ) I'm sure someone will advise on how to get it working properly.

Hi
These Salus RT500 RF are not very intuitive and user friendly at all!!!! (Just my opinion)
A lot of installers have problems getting their heads around how to set these up, never mind the ordinary joe public!!!
The Technical helplines are not that helpful either. The issues are quite a few, i.e frequency issues, the stat turning on the heating when not required (although this can be overcome after getting your head around to understand how exactly it works, I think!!!). The instructions are not very clear at all. Not very straight forward at all!!
They might be cheap but are they worth the hassle?
Why can't they design them so their easier to program and they have options so you can actually override the the programmed times and temperatures and have a manual setting like a lot of other programmable stats on the market??? Why make things so complicated??
And one proof of that is that just look at this thread on this forum and if you trawl the web regarding problems/issues with this particular stat, there's quite a few.

I had a new combi this week and the fitter left me with an RT500rf and although I consider myself reasonably intelligent it took a Youtube video for me to understand how to program it.
One question I still have, when the Salus's batteries eventually die will my heating no longer work until I replace them and then, will I have to reprogramme it again ?

You'll get a battery icon show on the display when the batteries need changing, if you do nothing the light will stop working. If you still do nothing the unit will stop working.

Did your fitter not explain all this to you?

Being cheap shyte, doing something anything and nothing will result in it not working ;)

I wonder why. I had 2 fail in some flats, and ended up bypassing them for the heating to work. Having taken the receiver apart, the power supply appears to be a very low cost capacitive dropper circuit and a zener diode for regulation. As these are powered 24/7 it seems to last a while, the capacitor drops value and the voltage drops off under load which prevents the relay from closing (it sort of twitches a bit but doesn't operate).

They last a lot longer if they're used on conventional systems with their power feed supplied by a timer.

Obviously not.
Actually I asked specifically not to have anything like this so he has swapped it for a mechanical timer with an rf room stat
