Flues and pipework

I doubt it.

As far as I can judge they decided early on to use a simple and cheap electric fire to keep the cost down.

Any problem and I an sure they could have found alternative suppliers.

I thought that was a very sensible decision.

They weren't cheap fires. They were premium Valors.

IIRC

Valor and Baxi were partof the same group.
Valor are now part of Dimplex, Baxi part of BDR Thermea.

Unless things hav changed again

Thanks very much for all those replies. They've been very helpful.

The condensate drain issue means I need to rethink things so...

Please can anyone tell me how you deal with the issue of breaching the cavity in brick walls when fitting a horizontal flue and condensate pipe? Or isn't there any issue?

I don't want to know specifics - just if it adds an extra complexity and cost to the installation.

Much appreciated.

No real issue, ensuring that the path through the wall is clear of any services then a wet/dry corer is used with a clutched drill. One @ 127mm for the flue the other @ 38mm for the condensate.

Thanks Madrab. That condensate diameter is hefty!

The condensate pipe is usually 21.5mm but when it travels outside, to minimise the freezing risk, the pipe needs to be enlarged, next size up is approx 32mm (36mm OD), therefore the hole is a couple of mm larger for wiggle room and then sealed.
As others have mentioned a condensate pump can be used which then has a 12mm plastic pipe that can be run to an internal waste somewhere but of course that then adds another cost.

Its best to take the condensate through the wall in 38 mm.

But almost all installers do it in 22 mm and then take it in 38 mm outside.

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation chaps.
