Am having a Cataract operation in a couple of weeks time. Would be interested to hear from any one who has experienced this regarding the op and after experience.

My grandma had one done in her left eye. She was in and out the same day and after a week said she could see better without her glasses than she previously could with them.

My mother has glaucoma and AMD . She's had about 8 injections in her eye for the latter. She says it's not too bad but I couldn't do it.

Had both eyes done. Weird but painless experience. In and out in a couple of hours. Difference is immediate and amazing - bright and clear.

Thanks for all the replies. One thing is confusing me but the surgeon will no doubt clarify on the day, but the booklet given to me by the optician gave aftercare as "be careful not to get soap in the eye for 2 weeks"; the info from the hospital stated "do not wash your hair for 2 weeks". The latter somewhat
unhygienic I would think.

It's to stop you getting eye infections, while the incisions are healing. Same with laser eye surgery, advised to not even get water in your eyes for some time afterwards.

Don't know if it's still the same, but my mother had to go into her next door neighbour's a couple of times a day, for 4 weeks, to put drops in her eyes after the op because she was afraid to do it - and she had to do it twice! Now my mother is on the waiting list and I can't help but wonder if the neighbour would do the same in return! I'm under the impression the procedure is different these days.

The ops went well, and her sight was much better, so it seems like it's pretty successful, either way.
