Just using the computer will be destroying more and more though so if you can take the drive out and run the linked progs on another pc then that would be better
It's a netbook ,not a clue about

looks like it's been factory reset ,I've not used it only turned in on in station to see if anything was still on

netbook is still a computer. Install any undelete freeware program and run a "deep scan" it surprising what they can recover which is why you should never sell a 2nd hand hard drive or sd card etc unless you don't care or have used a data destruction app on it

Got nowt to loose so il give it a bash , is there any you know or recommend to try

you could also take it in to a local PC mender who will have the tools and skills.

The sooner you take it in the better.

Turning it on, and loading software onto it, will start to overwrite any remaining traces of data.

When you delete a file, all the pc does is take out the entry in it's file location system, but there is a second copy of this on the hard disk for emergencies, and an undelete program looks at this, then checks the file location to see if the data's still there, or has been overwritten, and as each entry has a link to the next entry, it knows where to keep looking for the data.

But as JohnD says, if you load a program, then you risk overwriting the files that you are trying to recover, so you need an undelete program that can work from it's installation disk, so do you have an external cd writer with the nextbook, if not, then take it to a specialist who'll hook it up to another computer, and read it as a slave drive. Alternatively, can you connect it to another pc via a usb cable, and get the other pc to treat it as an external drive.

No not got a drive also not a clue about computers so IL ring up someone I reckon cheers

Quick update, PC repair man took lap top away and retrieved 400 photos, cheers everyone

if it has a CD/DVD drive, I'd back up your "albums" and store in a safe place, give copies to family.

there are other more modern ways of cloud storage as well

now take those 400 photos and get a OneDrive, or Google Drive account and back them up.
