security screws

Looking for a bit or a screwdriver with an end like this, its for security screws used on the Rail network, the holes though are 6mm centres roughly, and wider than any i can find.

Found this, anyone know what ones 6mm centres TH8?

The ads I can find advertise the dimension as a "centre to centre" distance.

Pop into one and see if they are to your measurements, hope you wont have a non standard/common security screw.

Were any aprox 6mm centre to centre though, i can find lots of kits etc with smaller ones
I have up to Th10 and there all to small

I needed one with a long shaft, so I just filed a slot in a normal (cheap) screwdriver to suit what I needed

Looks like i may have to for my own use, i had thought off that, then thought surely they will be somewhere on the internet, I cannot find one anywhere, mind you if I knew what its code was it may help

Nowhere seems to state the dimensions, i may get a TH8 cheap bit and see as eventually we may need about 10

Many moons ago, my boss wired a psychiatric hospital. The spec there included those same network rail type M3.5 screws. He got them from Eddies I think (the only wholesaler he really used back then). Must have been provided with bits to fit them.

MK sell the security screws and come with one bit per pack. (The rail sockets might be MK - haven't been on a train for a while but they're obviously metaclad and they're not Selectric!)

An expensive way to get them but if you call MK technical a friendly advisor could possibly be persuaded to part with some bits I'm sure

Yeah, that doesn't really seem to exist in the UK. Have you managed to accurately measure the screw head to try and work out whether it will be a #12 or #14 that you want?

These guys will ship 5 of the #14 ones to the UK from the US, but the P&P is pricey...

It's maybe worth asking UK Irwin stockists whether they can source them from that part number, seeing as you want 10 of them.

Might be easier to put one of these in your grinder:

and modify the end of an existing screwdriver

Or just use it to cut a slot in the security screw and use a normal slotted driver... (and replace it with a less stupid screw, like a torx with centre pin)

There not for sockets isnt the key for the mk socket screws now on the other end of the mk gridkey'similar to the locking screw on some mk covers.
These are on the diffusers, self tappers actually, they look like a number 12 screw so possibly why the keys are called Th12 etc.
Stratford station for example is riddled with them, to access to relamp.

I never measured that accurate, but looking at the measurements rsgaz found my 6mm centres hovers between a 12 and a 14, and im guessing wont need a lot of work on site to adapt to fit,
I dont have a spare screw to make one and try so I really need to go prepared on the night. machine tools wontbe acceptable on site, so it will be old school handsaw and file
