Hi all - I have 3 Philips Hue bulbs stuck in recess as per picture:

There is no space between bulb and recess to provide anything to grip.

1) I have tried a suction pad but the glass surface is textured so it does not stick.

2) I then tried scotch tape to create a smooth surface for the suction pad to stick but still couldn't get the bulb to twist and have pushed it further into the socket.

3) I feel like unless there other options to get the bulb out the next thing to try is to take the recess out but it's flush to the ceiling and I don't want to damage it.

Can anyone help particularly with 3) or any more inventive solutions for 1)/2)?

Many thanks

Dan

Just remove the whole unit, they are usually held in with spring clips so if you can get something like a spatula between the ceiling and the fitting it should all pop out.

Do the bulbs not twist anti-clockwise by any amount? If your fingers are slipping before the bulb turns try to wear some rubber gloves or something that will give your fingers/palm some additional grip then give it a little push forward and twist anticlockwise. If its still not budging then you will probably have to go for option 3. and hope for no scratching/marking the ceiling.

If you have some duct tape, make a 'handle' with a coin.

Thanks theVictorian - will try spatula although am nervous about damaging ceiling - any tips on doing this as I feel that even to get a spatula in will leave some sort of mark.

Omega - it doesn't even budge a single degree even when I feel I had full force applied. Option 3 will have to do.

EFL - I tried something similar with 3M strips but no dice on that :(

If you go for option 3, be careful!
Not only may you damage the plasterboard ceiling, but the downlight probably has a couple of sprung retaining clips. Unless you are very careful, these will whack on to your fingers like a mouse trap when you pull the thing out of the ceiling.

There are some fairly heavy duty removal tools on Amazon, look a bit more substantial then the free rubber cup types
