Hi, My 36yrs old! Kingfisher Potterton RS60 have got a faulty gas control, my plumber refused to fit a new one because today regulations that the flue outlet through the wall is not 600mm away from my window. I have decided to call it a day and have a new boiler which will be fitted next Wednesday.

We have a log burner to keep us warm for now and for hot water, enclosed immersion heater photo. I'm not sure how to set it up, I have been putting it on 2hrs then switch it on but only heat up hot about the top 400mm of the cylinder, this morning I went to switch it on, the light was showing Peak and the whole cylinder was hot. How do I set it up like that again so I've got hot water in the morning and late pm? Do I just put it on timed and leave it alone?

Couldn't find anywhere to download the manual instruction.

Thanks Picasso, you're right but according to the Potterton manual,

It is essential to have a minimum of 600mm of flat wall space all around the terminal.

However it's a good idea now to replace the boiler after 36yrs :)

You must have different instructions from the ones I have, cant find nothing about 600 clearance around the terminal.

Bearing in mind this is from the Potterton manual instruction 36yrs ago

This is the old original balanced flue terminal and not a fanned blue.

So it does need the correct space.

But if that is infringed a little then I would class it as not to current standards and not At Risk! Consequently I would be happy to replace the gas valve.

Stepping back, if it has worked for 36 years without killing anyone can it really be that dangerous?

But the efficiency of your old boiler is so low that with the new boiler you should save about 20-30% on your gas bill so a sensible thing to do!
